Thanks to a partnership between the Trinity River Vision Authority, Bank of Texas and Blue Zones Project – Fort Worth, thousands of FWISD elementary students from 23 Fort Worth ISD schools will get the opportunity to experience Fort Worth’s only outdoor ice skating rink, Panther Island Ice!

“We are so excited to launch this program with the Trinity River Vision Authority and give some of our very deserving students a chance to experience one of Fort Worth’s newest holiday traditions,” said Tobi Jackson, FWISD Board President. “Without the program most of these students would not have had the opportunity to experience the ice rink,” she said.

We kicked off the Fort Worth ISD Schools on Skates program with Greenbriar, Charles Nash, and M.L. Phillips Elementary School’s 3rd graders last week. They were the first to enjoy Panther Island Ice this year before the rink opened to the public on Friday, November 16. Thank you to Blue Zones Project – Forth Worth and Bank of Texas for helping us make this program possible!

“We are proud to partner with Trinity River Vision Authority again this year to support Fort Worth ISD and ensure as many children as possible have the opportunity to enjoy Panther Island Ice,” said Mark Nurdin, Fort Worth Region President and CEO for Bank of Texas. “Panther Island Ice is becoming a holiday tradition for families in our community and we are looking forward to another exceptional year.”

The rink is officially open to the public through January 14. Admission is $12 and includes skate rentals and sales tax. Tickets can be purchased online in advance or at the rink. Discounts are available to active-duty military, Guard, Reservists, veterans and their families.

Additional discounts are available online, visit for more information. Group discounts are also available for parties of 15 or more but advance arrangements must be made.

Panther Island Ice is open seven days a week including holidays such as Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Panther Island Ice is made possible from generous contributions by our sponsors including: silver level sponsors Blue Zones Fort Worth, Lockheed Martin, Tarrant County College, Tarleton State University – Fort Worth Campus, Bank of Texas and our media sponsors 92.1 Hank FM, 95.9 The Ranch, and Guide Live. Panther Island Ice benefits TRVA’s continued programming and river recreation initiatives.

CBS 11 visited Panther Island Ice during the first field trip. Watch the video to hear why this program is important for the kids and what lessons they learn from visiting the rink.
